Working together with Rochester Gas & Electric Corp., a recent analysis of energy usage in our homes at Autumn Woods has shown significant energy savings for our home buyers.  This analysis included homes with at least one full year of gas and electric usage history (excluding those with swimming pools).  Seventeen homes were reviewed, ranging in size from 3,034 to 4,795 square feet of finished floor area.  Variability of energy usage on the basis of square footage was felt to be due largely to the number of appliances per home (refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers, etc.), the type of energy used in appliances (gas or electric ranges, gas or electric dryers), and the amount of air conditioning used in the summer.  The findings were as follows:
  • Monthly combined gas and electric bills averaged approximately 7 cents per square foot for the 2004 calendar year, with a range of 5 cents to 8 cents per square foot.
  • Applying these findings to a typical 3,200 square foot home, our home buyers can anticipate average utility bills of approximately $225 per month in combined gas and electric usage for heating, cooling, and appliances.
